Release the Tapes of the Noni Affair
January 15, 2017
This week the Israeli public has been on a roller coaster ride as new revelations leak out in dribs and drabs about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's possibly criminal dealings with Yediot Aharonot publisher Arnon “Noni” Mozes, regarding a quid pro quo deal of favorable coverage for Netanyahu in exchange for the weakening of that newspaper's main competitor, Israel Hayom. While the attorney general's office is in possession of complete recordings, they have tried to keep them under wraps to protect their investigation.
In our view, the Israel public has a right to know the whole story.
Sunshine and full disclosure are like a disinfectant, clearing away the moldy stench of scandalmongering and bringing the full picture of this alleged corruption to light. The Israeli public should not have its news managed and restricted by officials whose motives for holding it back may not be entirely on the up and up.
